Your baby's first birthday is more than a milestone. It's a celebration of how much they've grown and everything your family has experienced together.
As an Atlanta first birthday photographer, one of my favorite things is capturing all of the cuteness and personality that makes this stage so special.
What to Expect From a First Birthday Photoshoot
First birthday photography sessions are all about celebrating your little one in a way that feels true to your family. Some parents love a beautifully styled birthday setup, while others prefer simple portraits that keep the focus on their baby. More Than Just a Cake Smash
When you think of first birthday photos, a cake smash might be the first thing that comes to mind. And while those can be adorable, they're certainly not the only way to celebrate!
A first birthday session can include:

When Should You Schedule First Birthday Photos?
I recommend planning your baby's first birthday session approximately 4–6 weeks before their birthday, especially if you'd like to use the images for birthday invitations, party decorations, or a special announcement.
This allows time for your session, image selections, and final editing without feeling rushed. In my experience, babies also tend to get more fearful of strangers after about 13 months old. This isn’t true for every child of course.
Tips for a Successful First Birthday Session
At one year old, babies are busy exploring their world, and that's exactly what makes photographing them so much fun!
A few things can help your session go smoothly:
Schedule 1-2 hours before nap time.
Bring a favorite toy or comfort item. (Only pull it out as a last resort)
Choose an outfit that looks beautiful but allows your baby to move comfortably.
Bring 2 adults, one person to help entertain baby and the other to sit close and spot your little one.
Keep expectations flexible. Some of the sweetest portraits happen between the perfectly posed moments.
Don't worry if your little one needs a break or takes a little time to warm up. That's completely normal.
